Wed, 09/21/2011

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - September 21, 2011 - On Monday, October 3, 2011, Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo will host its 5th Annual Golf Tournament at the exclusive Connecticut Golf Club in Easton, Connecticut. Now a signature annual fundraising event for the Zoo, players can enjoy a fantastic day on the links while supporting Connecticut's only zoo. The course features a rating of 73.5, a slope rating of 136 on Bent grass, offering a welcome challenge to even seasoned golfers.

"What could be better than spending a great day playing golf on a spectacular course, while raising much needed funds and support for the Zoo?" asked Zoo Director Gregg Dancho.

Designed in 1966, the Connecticut Golf Club provides ideal playing conditions with a retreat-like backdrop. This course is one of the most dramatic in the northeast, featuring tee boxes on top of rock outcroppings, with vistas of valleys and fairways spread below.

The tournament is a four-person "best ball" tournament, with a shotgun start beginning at noon. Participants will vie for prizes in categories including a hole in one contest, as well as straightest drive and closest to the pin. Players also will enjoy goody bags, a silent auction, raffle, lunch, and dinner as they round out this terrific day at the course.

Golfers and sponsors may register by e-mailing Emily Bobowick at ebobowick@beardsleyzoo.org or by calling (203) 394-6569.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is closer than you think and is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $12.00, children (ages 3 -11) and senior admission (62 and older) is just $10.00, and children under 3 years old are free. Members of the Connecticut Zoological Society also are admitted free. Parking at the Zoo is free of charge.
