Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Takes the Show on the Road

BRIDGEPORT -- The state's only zoo is bringing the Zoo to communities across Connecticut, beginning June 30, 2012. Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo's 'Zoomobile' will entertain and educate audiences at state parks, nature centers, shopping malls, and even hotels. These programs are presented in partnership with Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and Sherwood Island State Park Nature Center.
 

"While we love having visitors come to us, it's important for us to be active and visible in communities across the state as well," explained Gregg Dancho, Zoo director. "These programs are designed to engage, educate, and inspire audiences of all ages."

The Zoomobile schedule is as follows:

July 7: Remarkable Reptiles: In a Class by Themselves!, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is traveling to Sherwood Island State Park for some fun in the sun. Presented in conjunction with the Sherwood Island State Park Nature Center, these live animal programs will explore the little-known world of these prehistoric survivors and introduce families to beautiful and endangered reptiles from around the world. Presented beachside (weather permitting) or in the Park's new nature center, the programs are sure to engage, educate and inspire! The Zoomobile is FREE. Check with venue for admission fees, if any.

July 13: Wild Times, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is celebrating the opening of L.L. Bean at the Danbury Fair Mall with some native Connecticut critters. Participate in talks and activities with Zoo staff and even experience an animal encounter. The Zoomobile is FREE.

July 14: Wild Times, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Join Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo at Stratton Brook Nature Center in Simsbury, CT to celebrate Connecticut's Year of the Lizard by presenting "Leaping Lizards: Living Wonders." These live animal programs are presented in partnership with Connecticut's Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and feature exotic, beautiful, and amazing creatures from around the world - including an actual leaping lizard! The Zoomobile is FREE. Check with venue for admission fees, if any.

August 12: Remarkable Reptiles: In a Class by Themselves!, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
