Fall Family Fun at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - August 31, 2012 - Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, the state's only zoo, releases its September/October 2012 calendar of events. The Zoo plans fun and educational special events and seasonal programs throughout the fall, most of which are free with the purchase of Zoo admission, unless otherwise noted. Be sure to mark your calendar, so you won't miss a minute of the fun.

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is closer than you think and is open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Adult admission (ages 12 & older) is $12.00, children (ages 3 -11) and senior admission (62 and older) is just $10.00, and children under 3 years old are free.  Zoo members also are admitted free.  Parking at the Zoo is free of charge.  Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is located at 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut.  The main information phone number is: (203) 394-6565. 

Birthday Bonus! As part of our 90th birthday celebration throughout 2012, anyone who comes to Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo on his or her birthday gets in free (Photo ID with birthday required. Valid through 12/31/12).

September 1: Remarkable Reptiles: In a Class by Themselves!, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is traveling to Sherwood Island State Park for some fun in the sun.Presented in conjunction with the Sherwood Island State Park Nature Center, these live animal programs will explore the little-known world of these prehistoric survivors and introduce families to beautiful and endangered reptiles from around the world. Presented beachside (weather permitting) or in the Park's new nature center, the programs are sure to engage, educate, and inspire! The Zoomobile is FREE. Check with venue for admission fees, if any.

September 3, Labor Day, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

'90 Days of Summer' promotions end

September 8: Fairfield Day at the Zoo, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Fairfield residents who show a valid ID are invited to visit the Zoo on their special "town day" for just $5 per person. This special pricing is available for up to six guests. Rain date: September 15.

 
September 9: Connecticut Family Day, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Connecticut's only zoo is proud to join in the celebration of "Valuing Connecticut's Families... It's Everybody's Business," in partnership with the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families. Visitors to the zoo this day will enjoy $5 admission. September 11 & 12: Zoo Tots, 10:30 am

This monthly 45-minute program for children 22 months to four years old, who are accompanied by an adult, may include stories, activities, crafts, and live animals. This session is entitled "Animal Tails." Pre-registration is required by calling 203-394-6563. The cost is $10 for Zoo members and one child, and $15 for non-members and one child.

 
September 19: Evening Lecture Series: Wildlife in Crisis, 7:00 pm

Wildlife in Crisis is a non-profit organization dedicated to wildlife preservation and land conservation. This presentation will highlight the hazards that wild animals face on a daily basis-from a raccoon with a peanut butter jar stuck on his head to a fawn in the swimming pool. Learn how to prevent and respond to these situations. This program also will tackle common wildlife myths. Do mother birds reject babies touched by humans? Are raccoons seen in broad daylight always rabid? Join us as we ferret out fact from fiction. $5 suggested donation. Refreshments will be served. This program, taking place in the Hanson Exploration Station, is part of the Evening Lecture Series, sponsored by Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo Volunteer Association.

 

September 23: Hispanic Heritage Day, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Day by offering $5 off general admission to all patrons who visit the zoo. Join us as we pay tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

Harvest Hay Rides: Ongoing every weekend in October & November as well as school holidays from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Rides begin at the W.O.L.F. Cabin and are $2.00 each.

October 1: 6th Annual Golf Tournament

Join us at the exclusive Connecticut Golf Club in Easton for fun and fundraising! With a course rating of 73.5 and slope rating of 136 on Bent grass, this course will challenge and exhilarate even a seasoned golfer. Bring your "A" game, support the Zoo, and have a ball! The day's festivities will include a round of golf, contests (hole in one/closest to the  pin/straightest drive), great food, a silent auction, and raffle. Howl-O-Ween
October 19, 20, 26, 27: Howl-O-Ween, 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Calling all ghosts and goblins! Come and spend a truly fun and frightful evening at the Zoo featuring an "Urban Legends" Hayride, Haunted Farmyard, Gruesome Greenhouse, and magic show by Jim Sisti. Tickets also include FREE face painting, and of course, CANDY! Don't miss this frighteningly good time! Admission is $8

Boo at the Zoo
October 28: Boo at the Zoo, Noon - 3:00 pm

This spooktacular afternoon includes harvest hayrides and many other seasonal enjoyments! Plus we will announce the winners of our Scarecrow competition. Guaranteed to delight and fright all those who pass through! If you're under 12, in costume, and are accompanied by a paying adult, you get in to the Zoo for FREE!
