Science Standards & the Zoo
|
Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is always striving to align its programs with Connecticut Science Standards. Here is just a sample of the concepts the Zoo is particularly adept at conveying to students:
Grades K-8 How do we make sense of our world?
Grades K-2 How can we describe the living things around us?
Grade 3 How do plants and animals survive in their environment?
Grade 4 How do plants and animals interact with each other and the environment?
Grade 5 How do organisms survive and reproduce?
Grade 6 How do energy and matter flow through ecosystems?
Grade 7 How do pollutants end up in our water supply?
High School Evolution and biodiversity are the result of genetic changes that occur over time in constantly changing environments.
Living thing have the capacity to produce populations of infinite size, but environments and resources are finite and therefore limit population size.
Human beings are part of the global ecosystem, and their activities can purposely or inadvertently alter the equilibrium of the environment.
Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is also a great place to stage lessons in art, creative writing, social studies, math, and many other content areas. Call the Education Department soon and see what your students can learn at the Zoo!
