Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo Arboretum

An accredited arboretum dedicated to conservation, education, and the beauty of trees, right in the heart of Bridgeport.

A Living Collection Rooted in Conservation

Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo Arboretum is proud to be recognized with Level 1 Accreditation from the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program. It’s a milestone that reflects our commitment to caring for plants with the same dedication we give our animals. Through this accreditation, we’re part of a global community of arboreta working to study, protect, and celebrate trees and woody plants around the world.

At Beardsley Zoo, conservation extends beyond habitats to the plants that make them possible. Our Arboretum is thoughtfully designed to balance natural beauty with real ecological impact, creating spaces that support wildlife while inspiring our guests. Through sustainable practices and a focus on environmental stewardship, we’re helping protect the ecosystems we all depend on, one tree at a time.

The Many Reasons Trees Matter

Beyond providing shade and natural beauty, trees quietly shape healthier, more vibrant communities. They create spaces that feel calm and restorative, strengthen our connection to nature, and bring life to neighborhoods by supporting local wildlife. At the same time, they work behind the scenes to improve air quality, regulate temperature, conserve water, and reduce stormwater runoff. Even economically, trees make an impact, lowering energy costs through natural cooling and wind protection while easing strain on infrastructure. Simply put, trees are one of the most powerful tools we have for building a more sustainable and livable world.
