Lucky Stripes (Aechmea gamosepala), also known as the matchstick bromeliad, is native to Argentina and Brazil. Its thick purplish-pink bracts with iridescent bluish-purple tips resemble a row of matchsticks along the flower spike, which remains rosy pink long after blooming. Leaves are rich green with yellow-to-white margins.
Habitat
This semi-epiphytic bromeliad grows well mounted on bark or driftwood, in tree forks, or in light, well-draining soil.
Family Life
Lucky Stripes spreads via stolons (runners) from the mother plant, quickly filling its space and producing a spectacular display when in bloom.
