Queens Tears

Queens Tears (Billbergia nutans) are native to Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina. This bromeliad produces long, tough, dark green leaves with toothed edges. Flower-bearing stems grow in clusters of pink flowers with blue and green segments and elongated yellow stamens, creating a rainbow-like display.

Habitat

Grows in subtropical forests and semi-shaded areas in its native range.

Family Life

Most plants flower naturally in late March or early April. Each bloom lasts six to eight weeks.

Life Span

Average lifespan is approximately three years.

Status

Not extinct; widely cultivated as an ornamental plant.
