Brazilian Black Tarantula

Meet the Brazilian Black Tarantula, a calm, ground-dwelling spider known for its velvety dark coloring and slow, steady movements.

Physical Description

Brazilian Black Tarantulas can grow up to about 7 inches in leg span and are typically dark brown to black in color, giving them a sleek, uniform appearance. Their bodies are covered in fine hairs, and like many tarantulas, they have strong legs and fangs used for capturing prey.

Where They Live

Brazilian Black Tarantulas live in grasslands, where they spend much of their time in burrows dug into the soil. They are found in parts of southern Brazil and Uruguay.

What They Eat

Brazilian Black Tarantulas feed on a variety of insects and other small invertebrates.

Life & Family

These tarantulas are solitary and grow slowly, with females taking around 8 years to reach maturity. Males typically live about 6 to 8 years, while females can live much longer, often reaching up to 20 years.

Defense & Behavior

Brazilian Black Tarantulas have specialized urticating hairs that they can release when threatened. These tiny hairs can irritate the skin or eyes of predators, helping the tarantula defend itself. They are generally slow-moving and rely more on defensive behaviors than aggression to stay safe.
