Why Our Animals Are So Happy
It starts with good food and a clean home.
And hundreds of thousands of insects, including crickets and mealworms, make their way into meals each year; about 390,000 served annually.
A cozy habitat matters, too. Our animals enjoy 12,672 pages of newspaper bedding every year, perfect for nesting, scratching, and burrowing.
None of this happens without people power. Over 90 volunteers contribute nearly 5,000 hours a year, helping keep Beardsley Zoo clean, safe, and welcoming for every resident.
Interacting with Our Residents
At Beardsley Zoo, we want every visit to be enjoyable for both you and our animals. That’s why we ask guests to observe quietly, respect barriers, and never tap on glass or enter enclosures. Our animals have feelings and specialized diets, and your calm behavior helps them stay healthy and stress‑free.
