PUBLIC INVITED TO CHOOSE BETWEEN RAVI, TASHI AND PABU BEGINNING FRIDAY AT 11AM
(Bridgeport, CT) – Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo’s first-ever red panda cub has already gone viral and is capturing hearts across the region. Now, he needs a name, and the Zoo is asking the public to help choose it!
Beginning Friday, September 25 at 11am, the public can cast their vote for one of three names selected by the Zoo’s animal care staff, each inspired by the native range and culture of red pandas:
Ravi, a Nepali name meaning sun
Tashi, a Tibetan name meaning fortunate or lucky
Pabu, a Tibetan word meaning fluffball
Born June 24th to first-time parents Ponya and Pilot, the male cub made history as the first red panda ever born at Beardsley Zoo. Since his birth, the cub has been closely cared for by the Zoo’s animal care and veterinary teams and continues to grow, gain weight and thrive behind the scenes. His birth is an important achievement for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Red Panda Species Survival Plan (SSP), which works to maintain a healthy and genetically diverse population of this endangered species.

The winning name will be announced at 11am on Wednesday, September 30 on Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo’s Facebook and Instagram channels.
