(Bridgeport, CT) – Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo is excited to announce the arrival of brothers Rio and Tiago, Bolivian gray titi monkeys. Guests can now visit the pair in the Zoo's Rainforest Building, where they are settling into their new home among the exhibit's vibrant collection of tropical species.
Native to the forests of South America, titi monkeys are small, tree-dwelling primates known for their expressive faces, long tails, and remarkably strong social bonds. One of their most endearing behaviors is wrapping or twining their long tails together while resting, a sign of affection that reflects the close connections they share with their mates and family members. Active and curious, titi monkeys spend much of their day exploring the forest canopy, where their playful personalities and family bonds are on full display.
"Welcoming new animals is always a special moment for our Zoo," said Dr. Jim Wharton, CEO of Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. "These titi monkeys have wonderful personalities, and their unique—and adorable—habit of twining their tails together is just one of the many behaviors that makes them so much fun to watch."
Eleven-year-old Rio and 10-year-old Tiago are brothers on loan from Roger Williams Park Zoo as part of the Zoo's ongoing collaboration with accredited zoological institutions committed to exceptional animal care and conservation.
Guests are encouraged to swing by the Rainforest Building during their next visit to see the Zoo's newest residents and explore the many species that call this immersive exhibit home.
